California state has 1,293,839 children under the age of three years who are unable to have clean diapers, leading to higher stress rates, missed work, and other negative byproduct effects from this disparity. Data states that an average monthly supply of diapers costs between $80 and $100. The only federal assistance program that can be used for diapers is TANF, but TANF has to cover many other expenses, including heat, electric and water bills, rent, clothing, transportation, and other basic needs. Little if any money is available to purchase enough diapers to keep a baby clean, dry, and healthy. Our diaper bank is helping to address the following challenges: Babies are exposed to potential health risks and toxic stress. Families may keep diapers on for too long or empty solids and reuse disposable diapers, resulting in rashes, urinary tract infections, or worse. Mothers are at risk for increased maternal depression and neglect. Parents are unable to access child care, which requires a daily supply of diapers. Parents caring for Children with Special Needs are more likely to request higher supply quantities, which can be a financial burden. We provide families with diapers, wipes, infant clothing and other critical items needed to safely and hygienically support infants throughout LA County. Our diaper bank distributes to families every Thursday from 11 am to 12 noon. Can't make it to our Thursday distribution? Make an appointment with our center for pickup.
